Do you like them; do your kids like them? What lesson do you think they are teaching? Are they written from a religious point of view or a political point of view?
I really like The Giving Tree. It always makes me cry. It makes me sad how the boy doesn't appreciate and takes advantage of the tree until the end. I think it has definite spiritual/religious undertones.
Rainbow Fish is pretty, but it's a thinly disguised book about Socialism. (I'll bet that's what the Obamas read to their kids before they go to bed! ;D )
Political. Of course, the authors may disagree/deny it. And, of course, it teaches that lovely wealth redistribution Mr. Obama is so fond of (Biden would probably argue that the fish was being patriotic).
I won't buy Rainbow Fish because it is so political. The Giving Tree . . . hmmm . . . I haven't read it in so long I don't remember much, but I think we have a garage sale copy around here somewhere. The last time I read it was at some BYU "Happy Fun Camp" (not what it was really called) and the people running the show read it to us like we were three . . . so I just remember being irritated. But if they're reading it to Y Group Leader wannabees at BYU then it must be wonderful, right? *snort*

Thanks so much for your words at this time. My Dad was or should I say is loved by very many and I needed to see that. It made the funeral easier when I went back. I'm hanging in there and appreciate your friendship.
